We don’t work with every business that asks to work with us.
Over the years we’ve turned down a dozens of businesses that just aren’t the right fit for us.
And on the rare times we’ve gone against our gut feeling I’ve ended up regretting it.
Social Media Marketing has the power to transform your life and business, but here are 5 Realities Social Media Marketing Can’t Transform
REALITIES SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING CAN’T TRANSFORM: TERRIBLE PRODUCT / VENUE
As humans and business owners we all judge.
And perhaps as business owners we have a greater insight that joe public.
A new business opens and you can tell if it will last or be closed in 6/12 months.
The telltale signs are there, whether it’s overt like signage and a fit out that looks cheap and temporary; or you actually venture through the doors and have an average, or worse, experience.
Social Media is great at getting people through doors. 93% of purchasing decisions are influences by social media.
But getting people through doors and never coming back again is not a sustainable business model. Word of mouth starts to mean that however great the social media is, the reality just doesn’t live up.
REALITIES SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING CAN’T TRANSFORM: TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
Online customer service and Offline customer service are behind so many businesses downfalls.
The unanswered message for a press release, the unanswered message to buy, the comment that goes unanswered on social media, the snarky digs on social media.
The business not being open when advertised, the uncleared table, the moody scruffy team member.
Great customer service is the difference between a business surviving or not.
And Social Media Marketing is a big component of that, but there are other offline factors that often social media can’t overcome.
REALITIES SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING CAN’T TRANSFORM: LACK OF NEED / WANT
“Do your research”
No – not the c*vid conspiracy theorists whose research comes from an unknown source in a 60 second Youtube video.
Marketing can create demand – but it can’t overcome an absolute lack of need or want.
So many business owners have created a business around their passions. Passion is a strong foundation, but you have understand business fundamentals and research the market before investing your life savings in the business.
And this can change over time.
You can see how high streets and town centres have changes over the last decade to better serve needs and wants.
REALITIES SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING CAN’T TRANSFORM: EXTERNAL ECONOMIC INFLUENCES
Brexit. The Pandemic. 5 million different Prime Ministers. The Cost Of Living Crisis. 2 Wars.
In times of economic crisis, you 100% shouldn’t stop your marketing.
There are examples of businesses that were founded during a recession and flew – we’re one of them as we launched in the recession of 2009.
But euqally the goals might change during a recession. Your social media manager might be the one person actually keeping you at break even point during difficult times rather than making a huge loss.
Success looks different in a recession.
REALITIES SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING CAN’T TRANSFORM: POOR SALES / WEBSITE / FOLLOW UP
There’s a big reason we don’t offer a commission only social media management service.
We’re not letting our work suffer because of a forgotten follow up call, a poor sales presentation, a glitch on your website, no tracking of leads.
Sales and marketing are different departments that should speak to each other, but have different skills.
Don’t confuse the 2.
