Kid Writing

“Creatively is intuitively inside all of us. As children we produced content every single day”

I start every single Blogging and Instagram workshop off with that thought

It goes to the heart of rediscovering that creativity that was encouraged in primary school and knocked out of all of us in High School as we crammed for exams

If you’re 20, 30, 40, 50 years old and want to capture that childhood spirit to kick-start your blog, then here are a few handy reminders

1. Stories Have A Beginning A Middle And An End
It’s the one thing everyone remembers from primary school

“Stories have a beginning, a middle and an end”

And we witness this throughout our entire life from Disney to Hollywood blockbusters

So much of blogging is storytelling and therefore the same rules apply

Draw people in with a strong intro

Add some substance in the middle

Have an ending that compels people to tell others

2. Tell Stories Regularly
Storytelling wasn’t a one off action at Primary School

We were encouraged to do more and more and more

And the more we did, the better we were at the structure, the grammar and the impact of our stories

As adults we’re all used to telling stories to bring us closer together

We do this every weekend in the pub with friends and we craft those stories, those highlights into moments of joy, laughter, intrigue, shock and horror

Blogging is something you do regularly and by doing so people come back for more and more

3. Talk About People That Inspire You
I always seem to being asked on a regular basis to write stories about those that inspired you

Family members, historical heroes, athletes, musicians

We need to do more of this

We need to talk about inspirational people with inspirational ideas who make a real impact in the world

If there’s one negative of social media, it’s that we have built platforms where negativity is amplified

We need to talk about the good in the world more often

4. Use Your Imagination

There are influences around us everywhere

Literally everywhere

The restaurant you dine in tonight

The football match you attend this weekend

The holiday resort you visited this summer

All of those are as influential as networking meetings, industry bibles and FAQ you get from clients

If you look at my blog archives you’ll see the Olympics, Rock & Roll, Fitness and Veganism have all influenced my social media blogs

You just have to open your mind and use your imagination

5. You Will Get Rewarded For It
We all remember coming home at 3.30pm with mum and dad and telling our parents what we’d done that day

And then opening up our school bag and reading our story out or having our artwork placed on the fridge door

That was our reward for creativity. A smile from our parents. An extra treat in our lunchbox the next day. A trip to the Wimpy

As adults you get rewarded for your creativity

Not with a pat on the head, but over time with emails, phone calls and sales

Are you ready to be rewarded?
