The worst business decision you can make in June? Procrastination.
We’ve been in business for over 16 years and have seen this mistake time and time again.
The art of Delaying Important Decisions Till After The Summer.
Here’s How to avoid the “We’ll Deal With It After Summer” Trap
Why June Is Where Momentum Gets Lost
I understand it as a business owner.
Working in social media, we have one eye on the present and one eye on the future.
Right now we’re in the middle of a heatwave, and yet we’re already thinking about Christmas content.
So it’s the start of June and before you know it the Whit Holidays will be over, you’re then planning for the 6 week school holidays and before you know it it’s September.
June to August is a quarter of your year.
Three solid months.
It’s a significant chunk of time in any business.
Could self-sabotage be the real reason behind the procrastination?
So many business owners are guilty of self sabotage.
I’ve done it before.
Things are going well so I get a little complacent, a little lazy, a little less urgent.
Sometimes the problem isn’t that business is going badly. It’s the opposite.
You’ve had a strong Q1. Maybe Q2 has looked healthy too.
So naturally you slow down slightly.
But momentum is easiest to build when you already have it.

The “We’ll Deal With It After Summer” Trap
Admit it.
If you’ve not said one of the following, you’ve already thought it.
“We’ll sort the website in September.”
“Let’s look at social media training after the holidays.”
“We’ll recruit once everyone’s back.”
“We’ll revisit the strategy later in the year.”
“Let’s leave it until things are normal in September.”
But like every year, September arrives… and suddenly it’s full speed through to Christmas.
We’ll deal with it after summer becomes we’ll deal with it next year.
There are decisions on the list above that you honestly started thinking about 12-24 months ago.
What Your Competitors Are Doing Instead
The businesses growing right now usually aren’t waiting for September.
While some businesses press pause, others use summer to move forward.
They’re:
- planning campaigns
- booking training
- refreshing their brand
- testing new ideas
- getting ahead on content
- making the decisions they’ve been putting off
By September they’re not starting. Or kicking decisions back again.
They’re already moving.
And importantly widening the gap from the rest of the market.
This isn’t being a hustle bro or never switching off.
It’s just smart business.
Why Summer Is Actually a Great Time to Make Decisions
Summer (or any quieter period) can actually be one of the best times to make progress.
There’s breathing room right now.
With school holidays ahead that little breather from being slightly quieter gives you space for thinking strategically.
Prepping and getting sorted for the last quarter of the year is less chaotic when the groundwork is already done between June and August
And those 3 months gives you time to test before your Golden Season.
Test, try and experiment your way to perfection and those 1% improvements each day become bigger wins later.

No decision is a decision.
Remember no decision is a decision.
By not making a decision you’re choosing to stay where you are.
You are actively choosing procrastination
A client of ours often uses the phrase “Growing not dying” which is another way of saying “If you’re not moving forward, you’re moving backwards”.
Accidentally standing still can be costly.
- The competitors who make decisions now will already be building momentum while others are still “waiting till September”
- Delaying marketing, recruitment or growth plans for 3-4 months can easily turn into losing half the year
- Summer is often one of the best times to plan, test and prepare while other businesses slow down
SAY YES NOW
If there’s something you’ve been putting off:
- starting social media properly
- booking training
- launching something new
- hiring support
- changing direction
Maybe this is your reminder to stop waiting for the “right time”.
No Procrastination
You just need to take the next step.
I want your business to grow and thrive.
And sometimes growth starts with a simple decision:
Say yes.

KATY RATICAN OF LIFE IN SALE ON MARKETING DURING SUMMER
Summer is for sure one of the easiest times for businesses to lose momentum without really noticing it happening. I see it every year in my work as a copywriter and content lead: decisions get pushed back because of school holidays or even because everyone just assumes things will be quieter, without considering if that’s actually true. I think for smaller business owners, that is understandable, but June, July and August are not throwaway months – if they delay their content, email marketing, social media planning or campaign decisions until September, they are not just pausing for a few weeks, they are giving themselves a much harder job when everyone comes back and suddenly wants everything done at once! Plus, at least one of their competitors will have forged ahead during that time, leaving them to play catch-up.
I always remind clients that their customers have not disappeared just because it is summer. They are still scrolling on their phones, checking emails, searching for local recommendations, planning days out, booking appointments, looking for things to do with the kids and keeping an eye on what is happening locally. Their routine may change, but their online behaviour does not stop – in fact (and slightly ironically!) summer can be a brilliant time to stay visible because so many other businesses take their foot off the gas. The businesses that keep showing up and are willing and able to make decisions during the holiday season are usually the ones that feel familiar and trusted when customers are ready to buy or book.

I chose to learn with Alex because I connected with him almost instantly when I found his Facebook page. After reading through the training options and classes on his website, I had a strong feeling he was the right person to help me. That feeling was confirmed when I met him in person at a networking event. The way he explained social media, marketing, and business growth was clear, practical, and easy to understand. Within a few minutes, I knew I wanted to learn from him.
English is my second language, and social media is not an area where I naturally feel confident. Before starting the training, my experience was largely limited to scrolling through content and admiring what others had created. As a business owner, however, I recognised that I needed to understand social media properly if I wanted to grow my business. What stood out to me about Alex was his communication style. His pace, his use of language, and the way he articulates ideas made complex concepts feel accessible. He gave me practical tools that I could begin implementing immediately.
I am now applying what I learned, and although I occasionally need some technical support from my IT team, I have been able to implement much of the training myself. The results have already been encouraging. One Instagram post recently reached over 400 views, something I had never achieved before. Considering that this happened only a couple of weeks after the training, I can clearly see the value of investing in learning from someone who understands both the technical and human side of communication.
What I have realised is that the training arrived at exactly the right time. As we move towards the summer period, I feel far more prepared and optimistic about the growth of Thrive Forward Coaching than I did a few weeks ago. The session gave me practical tools, but more importantly, it gave me confidence and direction. Instead of feeling like I am guessing my way through social media, I now feel that I have a framework that I can continue to build upon.
I am still learning and implementing, but I can already see the difference. The content I am creating is clearer, more focused, and reaching more people. For a small business owner, that is incredibly encouraging.
“Sometimes the right teacher is not the person who knows the most. It is the person who can explain things in a way that finally makes sense.” Marcia Caseiro, Founder of Thrive Forward Coaching
