If you’re wondering how to create social media content while travelling for work, here are 7 ways to keep posting even if you’re stuck in a hotel for a month.
Social Media can be hard to do at the best of times.
But imagine you’re stuck in a hotel room for a month Alan Partridge style and the whole scenario gets 100x harder.
At Altrincham HQ we work with a lot of teams and businesses that travel across the country for work and being stuck in a hotel can be the norm for long periods of time.
Here’s a guide on How To create social media content while travelling

A CAVEAT ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND SAFETY
When picking from the ideas below take a common-sense approach to personal safety.
I always tend to edge on the side of caution and don’t post about being away from home.
I save content from whilst away and don’t post until I’m back on my sofa enjoying a British cuppa and a slice of toast.
Suggestions 3 and 4 are great for content, but I’d recommend scheduling them so you’re not sharing your real-time location.
Schedule Content Ahead Of Your Business Trip
Batch producing content and scheduling ahead is the easiest way to maintain your presence.
I do it for myself and my clients all the time when I’m away on holiday.
At times it does feel like you’re fitting 3 weeks’ worth of work into 7 days.
But the big advantage of this is it means that whilst you’re away all you need to care about is social media engagement.
The advice we give to clients is always have 3 weeks’ worth of content ready to go so you can plan for business trips, holidays or illness.

Green Screen: Use In App Green Screens For Social Media
On TikTok and Instagram they have green screen features which allows you to upload your own backdrop or pick one from Pixabay or Pexels.
It means you can literally film content from hotel room desk or even sat on the bed and still have a professional background.
That means any inspiration from the day of work can be used as the subject matter so it’s more real time.
A lot of clients use the green screen as they work from home and don’t always want to show off their family home to the world.
It’s one of the easiest wins you can do.
Unpolished Hotel Room Content: Why Lo-Fi Content Works
Creating content from a hotel room doesn’t need to be polished.
You don’t need to pretend you’re in the office.
You can just own the situation.
And do video content live from your hotel room, the hotel restaurant, hotel reception and the various places you’re driving too.
It’s real and authentic and shows that you’re a real active business owner in demand all over the UK.
Unpolished is not for every business or brand, but often it’s this lo-fi content that outperforms the heavily polished and edited content.

Use The Location As Your Backdrop
Variety is key on social media.
And what’s more varied that using the town as the backdrop to your videos.
One day your outside Old Trafford.
One day your outside Buckingham Palace.
One day your outside Edinburgh Castle.
The reason people keep scrolling for 2.5 hours a day on average is because they want to see something new.
Your location can be the thing that keeps people watching and coming back for more.
Repurpose Old Blog Content
What?
You’re going to tell me that you don’t blog and therefore don’t have anything to repurpose.
I’ve only been telling people for 16 years now about the power of blogging.
On our website we have 700+ blogs that I can use to either post or turn into fresh new content for whilst I’m away.
On Facebook and LinkedIn, I post one of our blogs every single day as it is, so this is no different when I’m working away.
When time allows you can look back at an old blog written 12 months ago or even longer and turn them into fresh graphics or videos.
People have forgotten what you posted about previously and your best content always needs repeating.

Repost Older High-Performing Content
Dig into your analytics.
What was the best performing piece of content this time last year?
What was the best performing piece of content this time 3 years ago?
What’s been your best performing post of all time?
As long as the post was evergreen content you can repost that right now.
And 50% of the time an exact repost with no changes will perform well again.
Sometimes the repost can even do better than the original post.

Outsource Your Social Media Marketing
If managing social media while travelling feels impossible, outsourcing can help.
There is another option.
Outsource your social media to a social media management company.
It won’t mean total dereliction of duty, but it will take a lot of the stresses out.
A lot of our clients once the rhythm is set in after the 1st 3 months just communicate with us regularly by WhatsApp.
We exchange ideas, we prod and remind, we report on what’s going well/
You track the results at your end for the real-world metrics by speaking to customers
It all works out well if both parties are on the same page.
Our longest client has been with us for over 13 years – If social media keeps dropping down the to-do list every time you travel; we can help keep it moving while you’re on the road.

They key always with social media is consistency – so when planning out your content for the year make sure that the level you can maintain whilst being office bound can be matched when you travel.
