Here are Over 40s on TikTok: 10 people aged over 40 smashing it on TikTok

We often get asked by older business owners is TikTok For people my age or it’s it just for teenagers?

According to data from We Are Social and Meltwater in the Global Digital Report

  • TikTok has around 19.6 million users in the UK
  • 28.6% of TikTok’s users are aged over 35
  • People in the UK spend 27.3 hours per months on TikTok

So that’s about 5,684,000 UK TikTok users aged over 35

In the blog below, we look at Over 40s on TikTok: 10 people aged over 40 smashing it on TikTok and what really stands out from their profile

Jyhll – @healthy_skincare
I don’t think I’ve met anyone with such infectious energy as Jyhll on TikTok.

You just feel brightened up every time you see one of her TikTok’s.

Jyhll promotes skincare products on TikTok and the business model is one of affiliate links for the products promoted.

As someone whose skincare goes as far as washing my face and getting on with my day, I might not be Jyhll’s ideal customers who spends money on serums, lotions and skin tech, but I have shared her videos to friends who may be interested.

Ann Russell – @annrussell03
Ann Russell describes herself as a “Very middle class old bag” and states we are all equal, except racists and terfs.

She’s basically a font of all knowledge on everything to do with the home, cleaning and a whole range of topics.

In between giving extremely useful cleaning tips – imagine everything your mum and gran knew combined – she isn’t afraid to call out people on TikTok stitch videos for false information and bigotry.

She monetizes her account with donations, cameo videos and has a new book coming out entitled “How To Save Money”.

If you don’t want to use TikTok to market your business, then just following Ann alone will be worth 5 minutes a day for all the useful tips you’ll pick up.

Timperley Nursing Home – @timperleynursinghome

Timperley Nursing Home is as local as it gets, being based here in Altrincham.

It’s also an example of a small business using TikTok, rather than an individual using TikTok.

When you think of TikTok, probably the last thing you think of is a nursing home.

But younger people work in nursing homes and the sandwich generation visits parents in nursing homes

On the account they feature residents and carers. It gives you a real insight into the business.

Mick Mattress – @mattressmick01
Mattress Mick is “Ireland’s number one mattress salesman”

With his quirky personality and Irish humour, he’s racked up nearly 35k followers and half a million likes

There’s only so many ways that you can sell mattresses, so Mick just has a little fun with TikTok to build his brand.

Remember that TikTok is about fun and escapism and it helps you sell on the platform.

Tim The Business Doctor – @thebusinessdoc
The Business Doc gives hints and tips for workers and employers.

With collections at the top of his profile around “Restrictions”, “Grievances”, “Interviews”, “Sickness”, “CCTV” and “Miscellaneous”, you get an idea of what content he talks about on a regular basis.

A really helpful subject for younger people on TikTok who might not be aware of the law and practice in the workplace.

All his videos are simply talking to camera – which means there are no barriers to entry for TikTok.

JustinHawkins – @mrjustinhawkins
I worked in the music industry for 14 years – you knew that there was going to be at least one musician in the list.

But Justin Hawkins of The Darkness isn’t your typical TikTok musician.

Firstly, he doesn’t use his TikTok to promote The Darkness.

He uses it to analyse songs, songwriting, techniques and production of other artists.

For those that are a little geeky about music or musos, it’s a wonderful in-depth look at musicianship.

And secondly, Justin Hawkins is 47 which puts him in the traditional age group of Facebook users rather than what you might think of TikTok users.

Martin Lewis – @martinlewismse
Martin Lewis is a national treasure, isn’t he?

Campaigning to get the government support individuals and business through the pandemic and cost of living crisis.

He’s come a long way from telling you how you can save 50p on a Pizza Express Pizza.

The content he posts is generally repurposed clips from the TV show and other social media platforms.

The key takeaway here being that you’ll often have a different audience on TikTok than other platforms. So don’t be afraid to repurpose your existing content

Darrin Robinson @darrinrobinsonfo40I
Darrin was chosen as one of the 5 most important fitness influencers over 50 by AARP.

A warning in advance, his content is sweary as hell, he’s brash American and in your face.

But here’s the thing.

He speaks a lot of sense when it comes to fitness and health (I’m a qualified fitness instructor as well as marketer – so I can see BS and facts)

In a world where fitness influencers are normally 20 something and glossy – Darrin is a refreshing change.

Laurie Knox – @knoxstudy
Laurie Knox is the most followed teacher on Social Media.

With 1.3 million followers he’s really breaking through the noise.

Showing that if the content and subject is great, you can literally just sit on the sofa and talk to camera.

You always learn something new from Laurie, which is why his audience is continually growing.

Watching the video below will give you an idea of what to expect each day.

Mark Tilbury – @marktilbury
Mark Tilbury is a “self made millionaire” offering financial advice on TikTok.

He’s built up an impressive 7.2 million followers by giving money hacks and advice.

Like anything on TikTok i’d suggest you do your research before spending a penny … especially if the word “cr*pto”is involved.

But this financial advice in a world where schools don’t teach young people about money is refreshing.
