If I told you that EVERY single one of our larger clients can be traced back to LinkedIn, would it surprise you?

In truth – it probably wouldn’t.

LinkedIn is the professional network, where business takes place, and with over 850 million members there are abundant opportunities.

If you’re a B2B business LinkedIn should be at the heart of everything that you do.

Below are 13 LinkedIn challenges to set yourself in 2023 – we hope you pick one and that you actually find them fun, challenging and helpful to your business.

Do read on and let us know on email alex@altrinchamhq.co.uk which one you’ve chosen.

POST EVERY DAY ON LINKEDIN FOR 30 DAYS

Some of the LinkedIn challenges on this list are easier than others.

For many, this will be the hardest challenge on the list.

It might seem like asking someone who takes A car to corner shop to do the 3 Peaks Challenge without training.

The reason you should do this challenge is to

  • Take yourself out of your comfort zone
  • Practice writing LinkedIn updates
  • Understand what works for your business and your audience in a short period of time
  • Be extremely visible

You’ll learn more in 30 days than most people on LinkedIn will take a year to learn

The vast majority of LinkedIn users are lurkers or infrequent posters so by doing this you’re speeding up the process.

The more you write, the more clarity you gain.

After the Post Every Day 30 day challenge find a level of activity that works for you. the vast majority of people don’t or can’t write 365 days a year – the ones that often do are copywriters or marketers.

ENGAGE WITH PEOPLE ON LINKEDIN FOR 20 MINUTES EVERY DAY

Imagine this scenario for a second …

… you go to a networking meeting; you stand in the corner listening silently to everybody speak. Not once do you acknowledge or chat to a person in a room.

2 hours later you walk out and declare that networking doesn’t work.

Most people are doing the same with LinkedIn.

The purpose of this challenge is to get you active on commenting on other people’s posts on the platform and you can either scroll and comment randomly letting serendipity happen or you can be targeted on those you comment on.

The point is to spend an uninterrupted 20 minutes talking to others.

CONNECT WITH 5 NEW PEOPLE EVERY DAY

Ever since the pandemic I’m guilty of connecting with less new people on LinkedIn.

My work load means I’m busy and networking less than I should be.

If you’re the same, one way to counteract this is by connecting with your ideal clients.

Set a low target of just 5 people a day Monday – Friday and in a year, you’ll have 1300 new connections.

In marketing we talk about Awareness > Consideration > Sales

How can you possibly get the latter if you’re not even on people’s radar?

BE A BIG FISH IN A SMALL POND

This is for the people in Northenden to Partington, Altrincham to Chadderton, Moss Side to Swinton.

Beautiful South lyrics aside some of these towns might be a little too hyperlocal.

As you know we’re called Altrincham HQ.

When we started our business in 2009, we didn’t aim to compete with the massive agencies in Manchester City Centre. Our mission was to make sure that everybody in Altrincham knew our name and initially we did that via Twitter and then did it via LinkedIn.

This Big Fish In A Small Pond is to connect with everyone in your home town and then use the LinkedIn Post Search to be active on all posts mentioning that town.

Try it and see what results it brings you.

50 LINKEDIN RECOMMENDATIONS CHALLENGE

Do 50 LinkedIn recommendations sound a lot?

Although we have nearly 600 LinkedIn Recommendations from happy clients, 50 recommendations are probably more than your competition.

Whilst writing this challenge I checked the 1st 10 people that came up on my LinkedIn newsfeed

  • Over half had zero recommendations
  • 1 person had 2 LinkedIn Recommendations
  • 1 person had 8 LinkedIn recommendations
  • 1 person had 15 LinkedIn recommendations
  • 1 person had 28 LinkedIn recommendations

What could 50 LinkedIn Recommendations from clients do to make you stand out?

PS. If you already have 50 LinkedIn Recommendations add 50 to your current total

WRITE A LINKEDIN ARTICLE EVERY WEEK

Do you write long form articles or blogs?

Maybe you publish them on your website?

Maybe you have ideas for content that you just don’t get around to writing?

Why not set yourself a yearlong challenge of writing a LinkedIn article every week to flex those creative muscles.

Take a look at our 5 Ideas For Evergreen Blog Content blog if you’re struggling with ideas.

30 DAY VIDEO CHALLENGE

Video on LinkedIn isn’t something I indulge in personally.

Although I did 90 days of Instagram Story videos, so I’m well versed at putting myself out there on camera.

We all know that video engages people in a way that text doesn’t.

I’ve realised the best way to produce content at scale is to produce series / seasons of content.

If you’ve followed us at www.instagram.com/altrinchamhq over the past 6 months you’ll realise we’ve only actually delivered 3 series of content.

The A-Z OF Social Media 2022 – 26 Reels
How To Make More Money – 9 Reels
How XXX can win £XXX With Just One Customer – 5 Reels and Growing

By turning one idea into a series, we make it easy for ourselves.

Also, it means people come back time and time again for more.

52 COFFEES CHALLENGE

Over on Twitter I follow @40CupsofCoffee

The tagline is Teaching you how to create a High Value Network one☕️ at a time

How many of your LinkedIn connections have you actually met in person?

How many of your LinkedIn connections do you have a deeper relationship with?

How many of your LinkedIn connections do you actually have “a connection” with?

Make it your mission to meet 52 of your LinkedIn connections and turn that online connection to a real connection.

BE PERSONAL CHALLENGE

There’s a shift going on with LinkedIn at the moment

Personal Branding coaches are posting gym selfies, using pretty privilege and racking up likes.

Is it really driving business though?

That’s the big question.

I’m very much 80% business on LinkedIn and 20% personal

The Be Personal Challenge is your challenge to post something personal once a week

Here are some examples of what I’ve posted recently

  • A holiday photo from Copenhagen
  • A trip to Llandudno with my parents
  • A book launch for a local author
  • Walter Presents – Channel 4’s World Drama TV
  • A bakery opening

All of those stories help people get to know me as a person.

75% EMPLOYEE ADVOCACY CHALLENGE

“Employees typically have 10x the reach as the LinkedIn Company Page”

Just re-read that statement for a second

10x the reach

So, let’s do the maths

  • Your LinkedIn Company Page has an average reach of 5000 people week
  • You have 25 employees at the company
  • Your LinkedIn Reach if 75% of your employees posted that would be a potential 100,000 people a week

Would you rather reach 5000 people or 100,000 people?

This challenge is about getting 75% of your staff active on LinkedIn and to do this you’ll need outside help from a company like ours

  • LinkedIn Strategy & Content Session with Marketing / Management Team
  • LinkedIn Training for key members of staff
  • 3 Month follow up accountability and Q&A session

Do the maths?

What is your potential reach?

RECONNECT ON DM’S CHALLENGE

How many people have you lost touch with since the pandemic?

All those people who

  • No longer network face 2 face
  • have changed companies
  • have joined a company after running their own business
  • You used to collaborate with

Drop them a DM today

And do it 1 by 1 until you have connected with all those people that you care about

CONNECT WITH INSTAGRAM / TWITTER FOLLOWERS ON LINKEDIN

Every platform is different

You should be posting different content on LinkedIn than you are on Twitter and Instagram

How many people follow you on the latter 2 platforms, don’t get to see more of your business content over on LinkedIn?

It’s an easy thing to diarise each week and start to grow your network over on LinkedIn

See how many people you can connect with

NETWORKING GROUP LINKEDIN CHALLENGE

This is a fun one

And it will get everyone in your networking group active on the platform … because lets be honest, so many groups are full of people who turn up for a Face 2 Face meeting and then are invisible online for the next week / month

Each month you give awards in your networking group for

  • Post With The Highest Reach
  • Highest Number Of Profile Views
  • Most Insightful Comment on a member’s post (the original poster nominates)
  • Most Sales Via LinkedIn
  • Most New LinkedIn Recommendations

A little gamification goes a long way
