Altrincham VS Cancer, the annual community-led fundraiser organised by Altrincham HQ, has reached a major milestone — raising £100,000 for The Christie.
The campaign, which has been running since 2014, brings together dozens of local businesses and residents across Altrincham to support the Manchester-based cancer charity.
This year’s total marks the highest amount raised in the event’s history, highlighting the continued strength of community fundraising efforts in the town.

Organiser Alex McCann says:
“I’m overwhelmed because this is a truly life changing amount.
We started off 2026 knowing that £100,000 was in sight and after totalling up I’m so proud to say we hit our target.
It’s a true collective effort from the community of Altrincham and everyone who get’s involved does so because they know someone that the Christie has treated and supported through the most difficult stage of their life.
I never imagined when we started that our little fundraiser would become the biggest annual fundraiser for The Christie in Altrincham.”
The Christie Charity has praised the scale and consistency of the campaign, which has grown year-on-year.
John Ashley, Corporate Fundraising Manager at the Christie, comments on the impact:
“ We’re delighted that Altrincham Vs.Cancer has once again been greatly supported by so many within the Altrincham communities. The commitment and desire to maximise their fundraising events each year is clear to see, the Christie Charity are extremely grateful for the efforts in the town during the campaign. To reach the £100K target is a significant milestone for Alex and testament to all his hard work. We look forward to continuing the partnership well into the future.” John Ashley, Corporate Fundraising Manager

Local businesses played a key role in hitting the £100,000 target, with Tesco Altrincham contributing £19,632 to this years fundraiser.
Kevin Cooper of Tesco Altrincham says:
“Even in a time where it’s hard for so many. We all still come out fighting and do an outstanding thing to help such a great cause
We love supporting The Christie Charity and it seems like the community of Altrincham and surrounding areas do too.
Massive thank you to Georgina our community champion as well as Alex McCann for everything he does to grow this event year after year.”

Long-term supporters have also been central to the campaign’s success.
Adam Horner of Mchale and Co, who has been involved since the beginning, says:
“I have loved taking part in Altrincham v Cancer for over 10 years. Every year. It’s a great community event where each year there are lots of familiar faces. The amount raised for the Christie is incredible”

Runner, David Bellin, has also been involved from the early days of the fundraiser and talks about his personal reasons for running
“Fundraising for The Christie is important.
My mother died from pancreatic cancer with a very short battle, and so it’s always been a good cause.
I’m not a big fan of running 5k at the best of times, but the fact that it’s for a good cause and it’s with a group of other people makes it easier rather than doing it by yourself.”
Since launching in 2014, Altrincham VS Cancer has become one of the town’s most recognisable fundraising initiatives, uniting the local business community and residents in support of those affected by cancer.
