I’ve seen the faces when I tell people I tweet 50 times a day
It’s part disbelief, part admiration, part “does this guy have a life” and a huge shock when they think “I haven’t even tweeted 50 times this month”
Before I get into the main blog I want to say from the outset I use Twitter for business, am very business minded and don’t do things just to waste time or for vanity metrics like likes or followers – I win business from tweeting 50 times a day and being present and have measured the effect and drop in email enquiries and phone calls when I’ve been busy that my tweets drop to 30 times day
I also want to say from the outset that 50 tweets a day does not mean 50 sales messages a day … as you’ll find out if you read on
50 TWEETS A DAY BROKEN DOWN – AN OVERVIEW
The data as of the time of writing this blog looks like this
53% of my tweets are replies
15% of my tweets are retweets
So 34 of the 50 tweets (68%) a day are myself engaging with other accounts
Only 32% of the tweets are what I would call broadcast or outbound tweets
I care massively about others which is why so many of my tweets are responding, replying and supporting others
If you don’t currently tweet think of it like a networking meeting
– You have the intro round – that is broadcasting on twitter
– You have the informal networking and referrals – that is replying / retweets on twitter
If you attend networking meetings you’ll realise the informal networking is where the value happens

Every business is different, but this will give you a rough idea of how the 50 tweets a day I send breaks down
OUTBOUND – 16 TWEETS
Tip: Educate and Entertain with only a small percentage of your tweets being sales messages
– 1 Sales tweet (About a course, workshop, event – but generally 1 tweet a day)
– 2 engagement questions (questions to get people talking)
– 3 Blog Posts (I have 450+ to choose from)
– 3 curated posts (I have google alerts set up, plus check 3 or 4 websites daily)
– 2 Breaking Industry or Local News (news as it happens in real time rather than delaying for a day / week)
– 2 Trending Subjects (Topical to my industry or where I can add value)
– 3 Personal Tweets (my interests – rock & roll, running, reading, TV shows or vegan food)
ENGAGING TWEETS – 34 TWEETS
Tip: Care about others as much as yourself on Twitter – the selfish don’t give value on Twitter
– 3 Hyperlocal town retweets
– 2 Manchester / Northern retweets
– 2 Business / inspirational / industry retweets
7 Retweets
– 5 hyper local replies – local businesses that post engaging and interesting content
– 5 feed replies – interesting things I’ve seen dipping into the feed
– 5 saved search replies – replying to specific saved searches I have set up on Tweetdeck
– 4 Training Clients Twitter List replies – supporting those that believed in working with us
– 4 Networking Twitter List replies – replying to those we meet face 2 face at networking meetings
– 2 referral replies – recommending great businesses to those that have asked for contacts
– 2 personal friend replies – the inner circle

DO YOU NEED TO TWEET 50 TIMES A DAY FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

According to date released back in 2017, the average tweeter tweets around 4x a day – but don’t be average
The lesson from the above is look at the ratios, the splits and they type of posts we’re doing
Most businesses won’t tweet 50 times a month, but 100% of those tweets will be sales messages or content that doesn’t land
The average life span of a tweet is only 18 minutes long – so don’t worry about over-tweeting
