Altrincham VS Cancer Raises £85,000 for The Christie and Sets Ambitious £100,000 Target for 2026

Record-breaking fundraising year sees donations more than double as community initiative expands across 30+ local businesses

Altrincham VS Cancer has achieved its most successful fundraising year to date, raising £27,204 for The Christie Charity – more than double the amount raised in 2024. The milestone brings the total funds raised by the decade-long community initiative to nearly £85,000, with organisers now setting their sights on reaching £100,000 by 2026.

Organised by Alex McCann of Altrincham HQ, the annual fundraiser has grown from a single event into a year-round community movement involving over 30 local businesses, all united around the core principles of exercise, community, and fundraising.

“Cancer is something that impacts everyone, and The Christie as a Manchester-based charity are truly inspirational with the work they do,” said McCann. “What started as a one-off event has grown to be so big – Altrincham as a community should be so proud.”

Expanded Programme Drives Record Success

This year’s success stemmed from a significantly expanded programme of events. While maintaining the traditional treadmill run – now partnered with The Gym Group – Altrincham VS Cancer added several new initiatives that proved so successful they will become permanent fixtures:

  • The Big Altrincham Dog Walk
  • Comedy Night at Rustic
  • CrossFit Trafford’s ‘Row the Mersey’ challenge
  • Trafford Law Society fundraising at their annual ball
  • Year-round Tesco fundraising (expanded from a single weekend)

The fundraising momentum continues into June with upcoming events including Oppio Lounge dedicating their LoungeAid initiative to The Christie, and an All Day Padel event at Dunham Forest Golf & Country Club, organised by Aaron & Partners and Palatine Talent.

Racing Towards £100,000

With nearly £85,000 raised over the campaign’s history, organisers have launched the “Race to £100,000” for 2026. McCann describes the target as “challenging but doable,” adding: “As they say, ‘Go Big Or Go Home.'”

The Christie Charity, based in Manchester, provides crucial support for cancer patients and funds pioneering research and treatment programmes.
