The obvious question to start with is: should celebrants be on social media?
Some celebrants post constantly. Others don’t post at all, relying on word of mouth and a website instead.
Whenever we’re asked a question like this, we always tell people to ask themselves one thing: is this fact or opinion?
You personally might not like social media. You might not enjoy creating content. But that doesn’t mean your potential customers aren’t using it.
Social media is now a huge part of how people discover businesses, research their options and decide who they want to work with.
So, if you’re a celebrant ignoring social media entirely, there’s a good chance you’re missing opportunities to get in front of potential customers.
Here are 5 reasons celebrants can’t afford to ignore social media.
A Growing Market for Celebrants In The UK
The Academy of Modern Celebrancy states in its “The UK Celebrant Industry: State of Play Report 2025/26” that “The UK celebrant landscape comprises approximately 3,000-4,000 active Celebrants across wedding, funeral, and family ceremonies”
It also highlights the huge growth potential here in the UK: “celebrants were named the top wedding trend in 2024 by Brides Magazine, while celebrant-led funerals continue to expand as fewer people choose traditional religious ceremonies”
More celebrants entering the market also means more competition for bookings. It’s no longer enough to simply be good at what you do. Potential customers need to be able to find you, understand what you offer and see why you’re the right person for their occasion.
Turn your personality into your biggest selling point
Weddings, vow renewals, funerals and naming ceremonies — possibly some of the most important moments of your life.
If someone is considering booking a celebrant, they are going to want to see reviews. They’re going to want to look at a website. But they’re also going to want to see how someone comes across on video and how someone speaks.
A celebrant who understands how to communicate through short-form video on social media can have a huge advantage over someone whose online presence is limited to photos and written posts.
Before you’ve even met them in person, you could already be on their shortlist because they’ve done their research, watched your videos and shared your name in WhatsApp groups to get opinions from friends and family.

Answer the questions people are already asking
They ask, you answer.
People have so many questions and it can be easy to assume that everyone knows the basics.
If you get asked the same question every week, that’s a strong indication that it’s a content idea.
The questions you answer for one potential customer could help hundreds more people who are wondering exactly the same thing.
You can even repurpose your best-performing content into longer-form blogs for your website, giving you more content that can be found through Google.
Increase Your Bookings as a celebrant
At its simplest, marketing is about getting more people to know you, trust you and ultimately book you.
Someone who has never heard of you is unlikely to book you. But if they regularly see your content, learn from you, see your personality and hear what other people say about you, you’re moving them from someone who doesn’t know you to someone who is now considering booking you.
Whilst word of mouth will always be hugely important for celebrants, relying on it alone can mean leaving your marketing to chance.
Combine word of mouth with a strong website, useful blog content, good visibility on Google and an active social media presence, and you’re giving yourself far more opportunities to attract new bookings.
There is literally cash sat on the table when celebrants start using social media, don’t see immediate results and then give up.
Stay visible when people are ready to book a celebrant
Someone planning their wedding next year might follow you today. Someone who attends a ceremony led by you might look you up afterwards. Someone may simply see your content because a friend shared it.
They might not need a celebrant right now. But when they do, the aim is for your name to be one they already know.
One thing I always tell people is this: your friend saying they don’t use social media down the pub is anecdotal.
The average person might share less than they used to, but they’re still consuming huge amounts of content.
- More than 2 in 3 people on Earth now use social media each month
- The average time people spend on social media each day is nearly 2.5 hours
- The typical social media user actively uses or visits an average of 6.5 different social platforms each month
The question isn’t whether your customers are on social media. It’s whether they can find you there.
CONCLUSION: Social Media Gives Celebrants More Opportunities to Be Found
Social media isn’t a replacement for word of mouth, great reviews or a good website. It works alongside them.
It gives people the chance to discover you, understand what you do, get a feel for your personality, see your experience and remember your name when the time comes to book.
And for celebrants, where the person delivering the ceremony can be just as important as the ceremony itself, that matters.
You don’t need to post constantly, although consistency helps. And you don’t need to be on every social media platform.
What you do need is to give potential customers the opportunity to find you, get to know you and decide if you’re the right celebrant for one of the most important moments of their lives.
