Are you thinking of outsourcing your social media marketing?

One thing to be realistic about is what you can outsource to one person.

Generally, a social media manager is responsible for overseeing the following: creating, curating, and managing content that aligns with a brand’s voice to engage audiences and support business goals on social media.

But I saw on social media recently something that is worth repeating:

“Hiring managers, PLEASE get more clear on the role of a Social Media Manager as opposed to compiling literally every single social media task (i.e. the workload of 5-6 people) into one role.”

Every social media manager is different, and we’ve touched on this before in Social Media Manager vs Creator.

But let’s outline which Areas of Social Media You Can Outsource?

There are questions at the end of the blog to help you make the right decisions.

Full Social Media Management

At Altrincham HQ, we offer full social media management.

We’ve been involved in marketing for 25 years, and this includes Social Media Strategy plus points 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 below.

We don’t offer Graphic Design, Photography, or Video Production as these are specialist skills. However, we have partners we can bring in to help with this.

By doing so, you get the best social media manager paired with the best graphic designer, photographer, and video producer—not a jack of all trades and master of none.

Our longest-standing client has been with us for over 12 years and sees strong results from having someone manage their social media.

Our most recent social media management client is just six weeks into working with us.

What I love about social media management is how it takes invisible businesses and makes them visible.

We started working with a business six weeks ago. They’ve gone from not posting in over a year to posting five times a week, reaching 10,000 screens.

That’s a transformation.

Graphic Design
If you’re not great at graphic design, consider outsourcing this element of social media.

You might start with something simple, like using Fiverr.com to find someone who can produce 10-15 Canva templates.

One of our social media training clients did this recently. She had great photos and videos but didn’t have the time to learn Canva, so she paid someone to design templates to fit her business’s brand.

If you’re after something more professional (though also more costly), you might hire a graphic designer to create all your social media assets.

We often bring in Graphic Designers for our events to use across social media and online.

Photography
These days, almost everyone has a smartphone, so we can all take photos for social media.

However, if a competitive analysis shows that your competitors are making a stronger first impression, it may be time to hire a photographer to produce 20-30 varied photos a month. This makes every other aspect of social media easier.

Videography
One of the best things I’ve done recently was a podcast with Manchester SEO.

Off the back of that podcast, I received 20+ professional videos for social media.

It made me appreciate the power of quality video for social media.

For future videos, I’ll be using Opus Clip to produce DIY-style videos that still look professional. But there’s no substitute for hiring a professional.

Engagement
One of the most time-consuming aspects of social media is daily engagement.

You may have mastered every aspect of social media, but if you don’t have 15 minutes per day per platform to truly engage with your audience, this could be an area to outsource. Regular engagement ensures you’re keeping in touch with existing and potential customers.

WE’RE HALFWAY THROUGH NOW – WHICH AREAS OF SOCIAL MEDIA YOU CAN OUTSOURCE?

Copywriting
A major area people struggle with is engaging copywriting.

Even with a bank of images or graphics, some just can’t find the right words.

Perhaps you could upload a batch of photos and list of topics to cover on Dropbox, and then outsource the writing to a professional.

It’s much better than bland, predictable copy from ChatGPT.

It’s harder to outsource copywriting if you’re the face of the business, rather than a wider brand.

Creative Ideas
Do any of these creative blocks sound familiar?

You’re overthinking everything
You’re afraid you’ll never make anything good
Your daily routine is hindering your creativity
Personal issues in your life or business
An overwhelming workload is stifling your creativity
We offer a solution that takes the pain out of content creation.

With over 25 years of marketing experience, we will come up with the ideas for you
You give us a brief on your business and your customers
We discuss your Content Pillars
We dedicate time to brainstorming at least 25 content ideas
Then, we discuss these ideas in a one-hour Zoom call to show you how to implement them

Diary

Scheduling
It’s rare for businesses to choose this option alone.

However, some VAs (not marketers) offer a service where you send them all the photos, graphics, and copy, and they schedule the content for you.

This is often not strategic, as they provide no input beyond posting, but it ensures that something goes out on social media.

Follower / Connection Growth
This is not to be confused with using software automation to grow audiences.

Software that does this goes against social media platforms’ terms and conditions and could result in your account being banned.

One area you could outsource is having someone manually work on growing your connections on LinkedIn, for example.

A larger audience can mean more opportunities, as long as the criteria are set from the outset, and it isn’t a scattergun approach.

Paid Ads
At Altrincham HQ, we specialise in organic social media.

We only cover Paid Social Adverts as part of larger campaigns.

However, other companies offer PPC and Paid Social Adverts as a standalone service, allowing you to maximise your impact.

QUESTIONS TO ASK NOW ABOUT WHICH AREAS OF SOCIAL MEDIA YOU CAN OUTSOURCE?
Which areas of social media do I feel most confident handling in-house, and where could I benefit from specialist support?

Do I have a clear content strategy in place, or would consulting an expert help in generating fresh, creative ideas?

What’s my current budget for social media, and which areas of outsourcing could give me the best return on investment?

How strong are my current visuals (e.g., graphics, photos, videos), and could hiring a designer or photographer make a difference to my brand’s image?

Am I prioritising the right tasks to outsource, or could shifting my budget to other areas provide a greater impact on my social media performance?

Am I currently dedicating enough time to daily engagement with my audience, or would outsourcing this improve my customer relationships?

Is my social media more impactful when paired with organic efforts only, or should I consider paid advertising to reach my goals faster?
