The ultimate guide to see more posts from your friends, connections and favourite businesses.

If you’ve ever thought “I never see my friends’ posts anymore” or “Why don’t I see updates from businesses I follow?”, you’re not imagining it. Most social media platforms now prioritise content you’re likely to engage with, not simply content from people you follow. Here’s how to take back more control of your feed.

Why People Are Seeing Less Of Who They Follow?

Every platform works slightly differently, but they all use signals like your interactions, watch time, searches, follows and interests to decide what appears in your feed.

Social media has shifted from follower-led feeds to interest-led feeds.

The old way of doing social media was to grow your audience, post great content and percentage of those followers would see your content if they were online.

That is still true to an extent. Both followers and great content matters.

But now it’s moved to an age of interest led graphs where you’ll see some of the posts from people you follow + what you’ve shown an interest in with previous content viewed and interacted with.

eg.
If you’re a Manchester United fan and you engage with Manchester United content you’ll see more Manchester United and football content
If you engage with lots of political content you’ll see more suggested political content
If you engage with Altrincham HQ you’ll see more content from Altrincham businesses and smart marketing advice

How can I do more to see the content I want to see?

If you want to see more of the content you’re interested in you can do a number of things.

Engaging with the people or accounts sends a signal to the platform that you want to see more of it.

So if you want to see more of Altrincham HQ go on to whichever social media platform you follow us on and comment on a few posts. If you want to see your cousin Dave more often do the same to his posts.

These are all seen as positive signals to the algorithm

  • Comments
  • Likes
  • Saves (Instagram)
  • Shares
  • Watching videos to the end
  • Visiting someone’s profile
  • Clicking through carousels

At the same time you want to filter out the noise of things you don’t like click the dots on each post and unfollow, mute, block or click not interested. I do this for a lot of political content that comes into my feed.

Don’t expect your feed to change overnight. If you consistently engage with the accounts you care about over a week or two, the platforms will usually begin showing you more of their content.

Why is seeing posts from your connections important?

For myself in business, it’s about the act of commenting and building the relationships more than the views.

I do notice on comments that get large number of views that my profile views go up and connection requests go up.

Marketing for myself has always been about multiple touch points.

So a comment, a post, a networking meeting, a blog read, someone else talking about, a look at our reviews, a feature in the press.

99% of the time we make a sale it’s multiple touch points leading up to (of which the comments play a part)

A meaningful comment tells the platform you value that person’s content far more than simply scrolling past it.

What won’t work for you on Social Media

  • Following thousands of people and expecting to see everyone.
  • Liking one post then never interacting again.
  • Complaining about the algorithm without training it.
  • Spending hours watching suggested content while expecting your feed to prioritise friends.

HOW DO I SEE THE CONTENT FROM PEOPLE / BUSINESSES I FOLLOW ON FACEBOOK

The middle aged are so anti-social these days – messenger chats are left unread, not replied to and friends are more likely to comment on newspapers ragebait over their friends.

I’m on a mission this year to support my friends posts more often than before and make social social again

So here’s how to see the posts you want to see

Desktop (left hand menu bar): Feeds > Friends or Feeds > Pages
Mobile App (Bottom menu bar): Feeds > Friends or Feeds > Pages

HOW DO I SEE THE CONTENT FROM PEOPLE / BUSINESSES I FOLLOW ON INSTAGRAM

Instagram, by default, will show you the algorithmic feed complete with suggested posts.

Whilst for many the suggested posts can be helpful – as a business you often want to see those businesses you’ve chosen to follow for strategic reasons

To see those you follow: Home > Instagram logo at top > Following

As an extra bonus you can also set up a favourites list of up to 50 accounts.

  • To add someone to your favourites list go onto their profile click following and add to favourites (Do this for clients / potential clients / key influencial accounts like Altrincham HQ)
To see your favourites posts: Home > Instagram logo at top > Favourite

Bonus Tip: Turn on post notifications from someone’s profile

HOW DO I SEE THE CONTENT FROM PEOPLE / BUSINESSES I FOLLOW ON LINKEDIN PROFILES

The LinkedIn algorithm is strange right now in Summer 26. A mixture of suggested posts, posts from 2-3 ago and less of who you’re actually connected with.

So here are way to see the people you’re connected with

How to set up LinkedIn notifications
We’d advice setting up notifications for 25-40 key people in your network. To set up linkedin notifications

  1. Go to their profile (mine is https://www.linkedin.com/in/amccann/ )
  2. On the right hand side under their banner photo click the bell
  3. Select all for people who post sporadically or most relevant for those that post every day

How to see posts from your network in most recent order

  1. Use this link
  2. Bookmark it https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/content/?keywords=%22a%22&origin=FACETED_SEARCH&sortBy=%5B%22date_posted%22%5D&postedBy=%5B%22first%22%5D
  • It basically searched the letter “a” which will be in most posts for 1st degree latest posts

HOW DO I SEE THE CONTENT FROM PEOPLE / BUSINESSES I FOLLOW ON LINKEDIN PAGES

LinkedIn company pages are really really hard to build.

But one way is by commenting on other company pages in your network

  1. Go on to your company page
  2. Select feed on left handside
  3. Add company pages and organisations you’re interested in seeing
  4. Comment every day

HOW DO I SEE THE CONTENT FROM PEOPLE / BUSINESSES I FOLLOW ON TIKTOK

TikTok is one the platform that people prefer the suggested feed (FYP) to their following feed

But it’s an easy toggle at the top to click to following.

If you’re a business remember deeper relationships matter over random relationships so we’d suggest using your business TikTok account differently than you might be used to personally.

THE 10 MINUTE FEED RESET

The algorithm isn’t fixed—it’s constantly learning from your behaviour. If you spend more time interacting with the people and businesses you genuinely care about, and less time consuming content you don’t, your social media feeds will gradually reflect that.

  1. Pick your 20 favourite people.
  2. Comment on two posts from each this week.
  3. Add important accounts to Favourites where available.
  4. Turn on notifications for your closest contacts or best clients.
  5. Tell the platforms what you don’t want to see using “Not Interested”, mute or unfollow.

Repeat for a couple of weeks.

Your feed will gradually become far more relevant.
