People either love or hate the fact that you can see who has viewed your LinkedIn profile.

It’s one of LinkedIn’s best features, as you’ll discover below in “Why are LinkedIn Profile Views Important?”

But before we get to that, let’s read these words from LinkedIn themselves:

“Profile Views Matter
Getting more profile views can help you get found for the right opportunity.”

If you want opportunity to knock, read on…

Why are LinkedIn Profile Views Important?
Like a website visit, LinkedIn profile views are intentional actions. You’ve done something to pique their interest.

They’re one of the most important metrics of success on LinkedIn (after sales, of course).

Whilst a few people will be looking to sell to you on LinkedIn, there will be others researching potential suppliers or viewing your profile after a piece of content has interested them.

8 Reasons People Aren’t Looking At Your LinkedIn Profile

    No LinkedIn Profile Details

All you have listed on your LinkedIn profile is your place of work/business and maybe a profile photo if you’re lucky.

LinkedIn has five core sections it recommends you fill in: Education, Position, Services, Career Break, and Skills.

There are also five recommended sections: Featured, Licences & Certificates, Projects, Courses, and Recommendations.

There are an additional eight sections, although personally, I find many of these superfluous.

Your LinkedIn profile is not Linked to your LinkedIn Company Page

One thing I often see with older LinkedIn users is that they don’t link their LinkedIn profile to the LinkedIn company page.

Often this is because the LinkedIn company profile was set up at a later date than the personal profile.

To ensure they’re linked, simply edit your position in your experience section and retype the company name in that position. It will then come up with the company page and logo.

Save the changes, and everything is linked.

This allows additional people to find you from your company page, which is particularly helpful for people working for larger companies.

      Lack of LinkedIn Connections/Connection Requests

      Awareness → Consideration → Sales

Or if you want four stages… AIDA stands for Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action.

If you have a LinkedIn profile that you’ve never used and you don’t have any connections, then it’s unlikely to expand from nothing.

Whilst I’m not saying you need 10,000 connections on LinkedIn to be successful, having a LinkedIn profile with only 10 connections isn’t going to attract many people to click beyond the search results.

Lack of Networking in Real Life

        I have about 12,000 followers/connections on LinkedIn.

Each month, around 1,000 people view my profile.

A large part of that growth has been through face-to-face networking because you’re continually growing your network and connections with every event.

At the start of Altrincham HQ, I would network twice a week and gain 60 new connections weekly.

Now I’m more established, it’s about meeting people I already know and adding new visitors to my network.

If you want to grow your LinkedIn network, get out to a networking event.

Search “Smiley Happy People” or “Alex & His Sisters” on Eventbrite if you’re looking for two great local events in South Manchester.

          Lack of Posts/Interesting Posts
You won’t get a large number of profile views if you’re not posting or not posting anything interesting.

Statistics from Sprout Social (a social media management platform) state that people who post 20 times per month reach 60% of their LinkedIn connections.

That’s once a day, Monday to Friday.

It sounds like a lot, but you can still post twice a week and be more active than many LinkedIn users.

If you’ve never posted before on LinkedIn, make this the first thing you do after reading this blog, and I can guarantee your profile views will increase. And hey, you might actually get a lead or sale from it.

            Lack of LinkedIn Engagement
I posted this on social media earlier today:

“I’ve just spent 30 minutes supporting others on social media:

15 minutes lifting people up on LinkedIn

15 minutes lifting people up on Instagram

Dropping meaningful comments on celebrations, educational content, and businesses asking for help.

              Do this every day.”

It really is vital to do the social part of social media, and LinkedIn is no different.

A meaningful comment can make as much difference to your business as a post itself.

              Lack of External Links (Websites)
              You have a website.

You have visitors to your website.

Is LinkedIn listed on your social media icons and contact page?

Is LinkedIn mentioned on your Linktree on other platforms like Instagram?

                If not, why not?

Your LinkedIn is further social proof that you’re great at what you do.

Very Niche Business/Lack of Demand for Services
                I’ll be honest.

My industry as a social media trainer and social media manager means that every business needs our services.

The same applies to accountants, photographers, HR specialists, designers, etc.

Obviously, it means there’s a lot of competition, and the market is saturated in those sectors.

But if you have a very niche role, it means your profile views will be lower. However, don’t disregard LinkedIn, as it means every profile view has a higher chance of reaching your ideal customer.
