As we enter a new year here’s a little checklist of 5 things you should have done within the last month
Print it out. Put it above your PC and make sure they’re done every month
The reason your business goes from feast to famine is you’re not consistent in key areas. It’s likely you do all of the below when you’re quiet, then you get busy and forget about them and the vicious cycle of feast and famine, boom and bust starts again
Consistency is key
CLIENT CATCH-UPS
You know how you’re spending all the time chasing new clients and new revenue streams and bow to the word new
Don’t forget to keep in touch with your existing clients
Whether it’s a face 2 face meeting, an email or a phone call just show them that you care
We keep in touch with our clients all the time due to the nature of what we do, but we always like to check in at least once a week
See how you can make your clients life a little easier even if it isn’t related to what service you provide for them
NETWORKING
Even when I’m busy I network
Re-read that again – “Even when I’m busy I network”
Networking to me isn’t something I do when work dries up (mainly because it never does) and I need to go fishing or hunting for new clients (as many people see networking as)
Networking for me is about relationships and being visible
Half of business is actually just turning up – naturally the other half is having talent and giving a damn about others (and of course that’s where many go wrong)
But if you haven’t networked in the last month book on a meeting – drop me an email and I can recommend some great ones alex@altrinchamhq.co.uk
BLOGGING
A recent post came up asking “Is blogging a waste of time?”
I’m biased as I started blogging in 1999 and if I hadn’t started writing back then I wouldn’t have done anything I’ve done since
Blogging is something that 100% is for the long term and has to be done regularly (weekly) as opposed to being sporadic
Does it work? Yes
If their eyes are on social media? Use social media to drive traffic to blogs
It might not come natural to all at 1st, but with time you’ll become a better writer and it will work for you as long as you put your customer at the heart of what you blog about
I have blogs I published in 2012 that still win me business in 2019/20
TESTIMONIALS
The truth is
Nobody cares if you have lots of testimonials or great testimonials if your last testimonials was years ago
I judge myself harshly and if my last testimonial hasn’t come in within the last 30 days I’ve failed
It’s as simple as that – I’ve failed
It doesn’t matter I’ve got 400 LinkedIn Testimonials for Social Media Training – I’ve failed
You’re only as good as your last testimonial and is that is months ago what does it say about the quality of your work in the past few months
Go check when your last review / testimonial came in now
SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING ANALYTICS
Analytics are mentioned specifically because Social Media itself should be done daily
At the very least you should have measured the results of your social media marketing within the last 30 days
I could put £1 million on the fact that you’ve measured your New Years Diet success on 31st Jan
I could put £1 million on the fact you’ve thought about money savings or how you feel after Dry January
I could put £1 million on the fact that if you used to smoke you know roughly how much you spend each month / year
But Social Media something you’ll spend 15-30 hours on each month with ease – have you analysed if it’s working or not?
Do it and then chat to us if you need help improving
